        Education

          In 2021, the whole education sector of the District insistently followed the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, studied and implemented in a deep-going way the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress and the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth plenums of the 19th CPC National Congress, and conscientiously implemented the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's instructions on coordinated promotion of pandemic prevention and control and economic and social development, and bearing in mind the goal of delivering satisfying education work for the people, overcame difficulties, and pursued reforms and innovations, striving to promote high-quality development of education in Huadu. In 2021, the Education Bureau of Huadu District was awarded the title of “Guangdong Province Advanced Group for Poverty Alleviation" and "National Outstanding Contribution Unit in the Sport of Rope Skipping".

          As of 2021, the District's education sector had 355 kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools of various types. To be specific, there were 208 public kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools, and 147 of the private type. A total of 262,517 students studied in the schools of the District's education sector. To be specific, 173,706 were enrolled in public kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools, and 88,811 were in private ones. The District's education sector witnessed an additional 5,180 school places in inclusive private kindergartens, 8,400 in public kindergartens, 2,970 in public primary schools, 3,000 in public junior high schools, and 1,500 in public high schools.

          In 2021, the District continued its efforts and achievements in pursuing the "5080" project, which has as its goal to promote the percentage of public kindergartens to 50%, and that of public kindergartens and inclusive private kindergartens to 80%. As a result, 55.53% of all the children attending kindergartens were in public kindergartens, and 89.40% were in inclusive kindergartens. There was continued increase in the supply of compulsory education resources, with new schools opening for operation, including Zilan School's Junior High School, Duya Primary School, and Huadu Affiliated Primary School to Guangzhou University Affiliated Middle School. Adjustments were made to the existing second and third batches of education groups, and 19 education groups were established as the forth batch. Of the newly recruited teachers in 2021, 52.38% of them held graduate degrees, ranking in the front among districts of Guangzhou. The District newly recruited 3 special-grade teachers, 11 Nanyue Outstanding Teachers, and 27 senior teachers. The District also introduced 1 backbone talents, 1 famous teacher and 1 famous school principal of Guangzhou. Lai Xuanzhi was recognized as one of the 8th National Moral Models, and Lu Ping of Yuanxuan Middle School won a first prize in comprehensive contest and four first prizes in individual contests in the final of the 8th Guangdong Province Class Head Teachers Professional Ability Competition. Student recruitment activities of private schools were regulated, where recruitment scope was defined, cross-city recruitment was strictly prohibited, and random computer selection was designated as the only way to allocate school places if there were excessive applicants.

          In 2021, with Guangzhou recording lower average score in the senior high school entrance examination and less students with high marks, the District saw a rise of its proportion of high-marks students in the city. The cut-off scores for admission to regular senior high schools, especially to demonstrative senior high schools were greatly elevated; and the average cut-off score of the whole District was 10 points higher than that of similar districts in the city. In the 2021 national college entrance examination, 166 examinees from the District scored 600 points or above, an increase of 61.2% over the previous year; and 15 examinees scored 650 or above, an increase of 50% over the previous year. 2 of them were admitted to Peking University, and 4 received admission letters from the PLA Aviation University of Air Force. 762 examinees passed the cut-off scores for special admission (sports and arts candidates excluded), a significant increase by 137 compared with 2020. The special admission rate of 21.12% marked the first ever breakthrough of the 20% threshold and a historic leap; 73% of the examinees passed the cut-off scores for undergraduate colleges, 400 more than the previous year, reaching a record high. Yuanxuan Middle School was named as a National Outstanding School in Inheritance of Traditional Chinese Culture. Students from the District won 15 golds, 4 silvers and 3 bronzes at World Rope Skipping Championship 2021. Eighteen primary and secondary schools, including Huadu School Affiliated to South China Normal University and Lequan Primary School of Xiuquan Street, were included as pilot schools for promotion of ice and snow sports in school campus. Ice and snow sports have become another highlight of the District in campus sports in addition to rope skipping.
